Volunteers in Environmental Protection Programs
– Part 2
As a team, we have been participating in an environmental protection program that allowed us to learn more about nature and how to protect it. This project has been very meaningful because we could share experiences, work together, and make positive changes in our community. In this blog entry, we will describe three specific experiences we had and two activities we are planning for the future.
Blog Entry 2 – Living Territories: United for the Defense of Nature (Elizabet)
Experience
- Last week I joined a reforestation activity in a natural park. We planted more than 50 trees, and I felt proud to contribute to biodiversity conservation.
- Two days later I participated in an environmental education workshop with children from a local community. We explained the importance of protecting wildlife, and it was inspiring to see how motivated the kids were.
- Last weekend I helped in a sustainable farming project where we learned about organic agriculture and its benefits for nature and health.
Upcoming Activities
- Collaborate in a campaign for environmental rights to influence local policies.
- Participate in the promotion of sustainable tourism to help communities develop eco-friendly projects.
Environmental Fair - Part 2 (Jimena)
Experience
- This week, my participation in the Environmental Fair continued with incredible activities. I visited a school to teach kids about waste separation, and I was surprised by how quickly they understood the concept. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm for doing the right thing.
- Later, we organized a tree-planting event in a park. It was a community effort where families and neighbors worked together. By the end of the day, the park looked completely different. The feeling of creating something lasting for the community was very rewarding.
- I also helped with a water conservation workshop, teaching simple ways to save this vital resource at home.
Upcoming Activities
Next week, there will be an art contest with recycled materials.
Organize a large-scale riverbank cleanup.
Reforestation in Malinalco State Park (Abril)
Experience
- On March 15, 2023, I participated in a controlled reforestation day with native species in Malinalco State Park. The activity was organized by a local environmental conservation association and had the participation of community volunteers. During the day, we planted over 500 trees of native species such as pine (Pinus spp.) and oak (Quercus spp.).
- On June 20, 2023, I returned to Malinalco State Park to monitor the progress of the reforestation we had done a few months earlier. During the visit, we observed that many of the trees we had planted had grown and were healthy. We also identified some areas that required additional attention, such as the need for irrigation and protection against pests.
- I participated in an environmental education workshop organized by the same local environmental conservation association. The workshop focused on the importance of reforestation with native species and how it can contribute to biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation. I learned about the different native tree species in the region and how they can be used in reforestation projects.
Upcoming Activities
On September 25, 2024, I will attend an education workshop on native species in Malinalco, where I will learn about the characteristics and benefits of local plants and animals.
On September 17, 2025, I will attend a dance rehearsal in Ocuilan.
Blog Entry #2 – My Experience in Bio Malinalco (Rosario)
Experience
- Last month I joined an environmental education workshop at a local school. I explained to children why protecting plants and animals matters, and I was surprised by their enthusiasm.
- In a community near the river, I worked with other volunteers to clean plastic waste. Even though it was tiring, it felt rewarding to see the river look better after our effort.
- In the mountains of Malinalco during a reforestation day, we planted trees with local families, and I felt proud knowing they will grow and benefit future generations.
Upcoming Activities
- Help organize a biodiversity fair so people can learn about native species.
- Join a sustainable agriculture workshop to support local farmers.
Malinalco Community Foundation- Part 2 (Jazmin)
Experience
- I joined a fire prevention brigade, where I helped create firebreaks. It was hard work, but it taught me the importance of planning and teamwork to protect the forest.
- I participated in a reforestation day. We focused on replanting deforested areas with native species, and I helped ensure each young tree was planted correctly. I felt a special connection to nature, knowing I was helping to restore a home for many species.
- I offered an environmental education workshop to young people, teaching them how to identify trees and to not leave trash behind. Seeing their interest confirmed that education is key.
Upcoming Activities
- An awareness campaign in schools.
- The consolidation of new community brigades.
